Pears (Asian) have been one the most consistent to give me quality fruit for a few years now. I also get a few Ayers and Harrow Sweet. Pictured is Dripping Honey which is starting to get bigger. and I’m looking forward to mid August to start sampling. Recently I added scions of Shinko, Turnbull, and Bell. I don’t know but I think these will also be good additions. How are your pears doing this year?

Mine are soggy. Way too much rain, local flooding, but the trees look fabulous and are growing gangbusters.

Here is a few pictures of magness. Pears always do great here. I used biochar and other wood to rehab that soil years ago.

this harrow sweet grafted limb is putting out flowers again, on a new side shoot, after already setting a single fruit(above) on last years graft. is that normal?

Harrow Sweet is such a reliable one. Mine has been the most consistent pear in the garden, sets fruit every year without fussing. Dripping Honey is new to me, curious what you think of it come August.

Dripping Honey tastes similar to its name. It has been my family and friends favorite pear for a few years now.

The taste is identical between warren and Magness since they are sisters. There is not a person alive that can tell them apart. I would know if there was away without genetic testing.

The leaves are different enough that you can tell which is Magness and which is Warren. My trees are grafted on the same rootstock so there is very little difference between them… except the leaves.

The leaves are the same more or less on all those I have. I could blind taste test you or walk you around and I bet you can’t tell. Sometimes ripening dates will be two weeks apart.
Well this is a fun thread, I have almost all the varieties mentioned but none of those are fruiting age yet. Maybe next year! Just grafted Turnbull, Harrow Sweet, Drippin honey. Last year grafted Magness, Shinko, Korean Giant. I planted whole Bosc, Chojuro, and Shinseiki trees this spring.
My Flemish beauty is proving to be reliable producer and my Anjou has the best crop in its first year bearing.

Most of my pears are coming along well, but a few asians got this odd freeze damage. This is Kosui but Hosui and Yulu also got this. None of the other Asians or Euros got it, I think its only the most early bloomers that got hit.

Just a quick check-in. We are having a major fire blight epidemic this year. I have lost a couple of trees, and so far, eleven varieties grafted onto my multigrafted trees. I may lose four or five more trees before this comes to an end.
I haven’t decided if I will do the Pears 2026 thread this year. But, all that said. I have lots of fruit on many blight free varieties.

May your fireblight be short this year, admittedly I never had a year wind up different from how it started up.

Still waiting on mine to size up - Concorde has some decent fruit set this year after a slow start. Way too much rain here though, hoping it holds off long enough for them to sweeten properly before harvest.

We got more rain this spring and I’m guessing that this contributed to having a few more fireblight hits on my Dripping Honey pear. Korean Giant on the same tree had less strikes. With only 5 trees that are trained low I can easily check them each morning. I try to get it out before it has time to spread. If in doubt break in out. I think this method has kept me from having to remove limbs. I haven’t had any strikes lately and this small timer will still get a good harvest as it stands right now.

Misery loves company. I’ve got 10 pear trees with major FB also. Two or more may be finished. I can top you though with a late freeze also wiping out the crop on all the trees. Get your saw out, you can save some of them.
