Persimmon disease?

I planted this Saijo persimmon this past spring. It leafed out normally but now it keeps leaking sap and resin from the area just above the graft union. The area right at the graft union is cracking now too and I’m noticing more small cracks developing up the central leader. The area leaking sap is also expanding upwards. This tree is grafted on virginiana rootstock and I bought it from Edible Landscaping. There are also lots of small shoots starting to form under the graft which I rubbed off. What could be causing this? The leaves look normal enough.

The tree looks very healthy. I would continue to rub off any growth below the union and just keep a close eye on the crack.

Not sure ?
I did find 3 bores in nursery stock smaller than that this year.
Stem completely hollowed out.
Big fat grub in there. On three different persimmon plants
So maybe ?
Could drill a very tiny hole in there to see if its hollow?
Or not ?

I’ve had that happen before and the tree pulled through just fine. It has a bare patch along the trunk where no bark has ever grown back. But it’s been that way a few years now and it fruits reliably and seems happy enough.

I figured I was just being paranoid. None of the other persimmons I planted ever leaked any sap so that had be worried. I went ahead and sprayed the trunk with Sevin just in case there is something chewing at it under the bark.
