Persimmon SDS?

Hi Lads
Just checked some of my Persimmons that hadn’t budded out yet turns out a lot have died despite a very mild winter.

The only thing I can think of is we had a very early frost in September or SDS.

Trees that died
Nikita’s gift on Lotus
Yates on Lotus
Morris Burton on Lotus
Sheng on Lotus
Gora Roman Kosh on Virginiana
Barbras Blush on Virginiana
Early Jewel on Virginiana
Early Golden on Virginiana

Most are dead including rootstock anyone come across this?

Regards Anthony

Are they young trees or have they been around a few years?

I’m under the impression that neither D. virginiana or D. lotus gets SDS.

Also, I have both Morris Burton and Barbra’s Blush on a tree that seems to be infected. These Americans show no symptoms.

If your trees are dead including the rootstock, I’d look for another cause. A frost wouldn’t kill DV rootstock. Is your growing site very wet (e.g., root rot)?

Some going on to the 3rd Season in ground and some 2nd season in ground.

I don’t like loosing the trees but I hate not knowing why.

The only damage that was visible is when we went down to 28f in September when all trees were still green but true that shouldn’t kill D.V rootstock.

Site is on a slope so shouldn’t be too wet but soil is heavy clay.

Persimmons next to all these are fine.

It’s baffling
