Just thought I’d post this, think i only saw 2 references to peeling/shedding bark in asian persimmons (the other reference also mentioned Saiju in particular which is this tree).
Alot of people thought the tree was a goner, but it seems fine past couple years.

I am tempted to cut the bark with a knife there and see when I can see green cambium layer. On a larger tree like that, is the green layer noticeable like how it is on scionwood? Wondering how deep i have to cut to see the green cambium layer.
