Persimmons, Mulberries, and Lime trees

I started to add persimmon and mulberry trees to our fig orchard around our home in zone 6a MA very recently, and I hope that my efforts will prove somewhat successful.

Last spring, I bought an Izu, Saijo, and Sheng from JFE Florida and up-potted them immediately upon arrival into 25-gallon SIP containers. The Izu is currently loaded with about 30 fruits that formed back in May. I decided to let the tree do its own thing without any thinning, and it did drop about 20 much smaller fruits about a month ago. The Sheng is also doing well, holding six or seven good-sized fruits that formed over two months ago; it did not drop any.

I also picked up two JT-02, a Kassandra, two Journey, an H63a, a Chuchupaka, and an H118 from three different sources last spring. I put all of them straight into the ground as tiny little plants with trunk sizes under a quarter of an inch. Both the JT-02 and Kassandra formed fruits early on but dropped them shortly after. The H118 is still holding onto a few fruits, though I expect them to drop as well given how young the tree is.

I planted two Gerardi mulberries from Lucille, along with a weeping mulberry and a Bearss seedless lime from OGE in Oregon. All four of these went straight into the ground last year and are coming along nicely. We have harvested mulberries from all three trees and a couple of limes that were very juicy and quite tasty.

Here are a few photos of all the non-fig trees in my yard.

Really nice looking trees. I did a double-take on the third picture in the lineup, of Journey. It looks exactly like a few of my young avocado trees, same shape and color leaves, same reddish new growth, same habit. How do the mulberries from the weeping variety taste? I have seen reviews those are some of the best flavored berries and I’m looking to add a couple more to my backyard. Thanks.

The leaves on the Journey persimmon are truly a pleasure to look at. My Weeping mulberry is still young, obviously, but from what I’ve read it isn’t a heavy producer. That said, the few fruits we did pick tasted really nice. The flavor was good and fairly sweet.
Note that this particular Journey is younger and was put in the ground this spring. All the other trees were planted spring 2025.
