Planting Peach near Plum

I read on A Modern Homestead that you should NOT plant a peach tree near a plum tree because you could get variations on your peach that aren’t tasty. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true? How far apart do I need to plant them? I planted my peach today…so if I need to move it, I’d prefer to do it tomorrow instead of in two years.

Unless your peach and plum successfully pollinate each other, you collect and plant the resulting seeds, at least one of those seedlings retains fertility and readily produces fruit… The flavor won’t be affected.

You don’t need to worry about having both a peach and a plum in your yard.

I agree with JohannsGarden; I’ve had a peach tree next to a plum tree for over 30 years and have not had any problems.

I have peach, plum, pluot, nectarine, apricot, aprium, all on one tree. Plus peach trees about 7ft away. They have tasted great so far

I would say it’s an old wife’s tale, but that blogging wife looks pretty young… a young wife’s tale :grinning:

Indeed that’s not going to be an issue.
