unless you have rocky, heavy clay soil like i do. then you plant the tree on top of the sod. mound with soil then mulch. put a stake to tie it to for a few years until the roots anchor themselves. the few trees that i killed planting in ground were not easy to dig even 12in. down. i had to use a pick axe. whoever put the fill on this property didn’t think of growing anything on it that’s for sure.
