Please recommend another Asian pear variety

Hello,
I am now harvesting my Drippin Honey pears for the first time today 10/8
I would like another variety or 2 that ripens early, then mid season.
The drippin honey’s are awesome. Much better than anything I’ve bought in the store.

I’m in zone 6a so winter hardiness could be an issue

Hosui might be a good choice.

I second Hosui. It has a different flavor than Drippin Honey and starts to ripen maybe 3 weeks earlier here. Shinsui ripens maybe 4-5 weeks earlier than Drippin Honey and is fine eating as well.

Sorry, I should have put an @ on it. PharmerDrewee does not live that far from me. I just grafted DH, but I thought it was a much earlier pear.

I’m in 6b and my Chojuro was a big success this year. Earlier than the other pears, easier to know when they are ripe due to a more marked change in color, and a wonderful butterscotch flavor. I also had Drippin Honey which was very good, but I honestly think the Chojuro were more flavorful.

Hosui I agree with. Chojuro maybe, fire blight may be an issue. Korean Giant is one to consider. Perhaps also Daishi Li. Hosui, Drippin’ Honey, Daishi Li, and Korean Giant should spread your maturity dates over nearly 2 months.

Is there a good guide anywhere trying to explain what all the cultivars taste like?

First week of September here and ongoing until the last week of October. I like them better towards the beginning when they’re still crunchy.

No, not on this forum. However, most Asian pears tasted similar, crunchy, juicy and sweet. The level of crunchiness and sweetness depend on varieties, a stage of ripeness and a growing condition.

The first thing you want to know is if it is fire blight susceptible, which could vary based on climate, too.
