Plum graft growth per season

Hello people. For plums, what is the normal growth range per season? For whip and tongue, do you support the graft to keep it from snapping off? So far since grafting this past march, I’ve gotten close to a meter of growth on some of my plums so I’m wondering if the graft join should be reinforced.

Some graft unions are stronger than others. 1 meter growth is not atypical for plums. If you are in doubt support it.

One meter should be OK if strong tape is used. In my climate one meter growth first season is typical.

I have lost a number of successful grafts this year due to girdling ( not removing the graft tapes and rubbers soon enough) stinting usually works , but don’t wait too late, if you have more than a foot of growth it needs support.
