I have this peach seedling that has sprouted and is its second year. I’m considering grafting plums onto it. Has anyone had success or failure grafting plums scions onto peach seed (rootstock). I’m not exactly sure what variety of peach it came from a local orchard… and it isn’t true to type. The growth on it has exploded this year though. I already have a couple peach trees and was considering grafting to diversify my orchard project. I’m in zone 7b on the mid Atlantic coast
I grafted Contender peach on my Santa Rosa plum tree last year and it fruited for me this year. I would assume that the reverse would also work.
I graft peach and nectarines on plum trees.
I grafted plum (some sort of green gage) on to a peach seedling I grew from a pit. It is growing completely fine. I did it using a fall chip bud. Peach is often used as a plum rootstock commercially (Lovell, which is just a regular peach that’s used as rootstock).
I remember that @alan had some issues because he’d forget that he had peaches on plum rootstock and they’d get some sort of pest. So maybe that’s something to look out for and hopefully he sees this and reminds me of what the issue was.
Since black rot is common on plum trees in some humid locations, I would not use it as root stock for peaches in those areas.
J plum and Flavor Supreme pluot grafted to a peach tree in June.
Dapple Dandy chip budded onto peach last summer.
Plum on Peach seems to take pretty readily.
I would recommend nectarines especially donut nectarines if you can find them. They’re amazing! All the donut nectarines I’ve tried are great, small large, all amazing!
And nectarines are peaches so the compatibility is perfect.
I did several plums on a peach interstem. Both Euro and Japanese. The grafts mostly took and are growing extremely quickly. Unsure about long-term compatibility however but we will see
Peach seedling or root stock make a great choice for grafting. Grafted a Chickasaw plum onto a peach root stock. It have been 3 years and the growth is tremendous. It’s just as tall as the original tree in 3 years.
Plums on peach interstems to what? Interesting….are you grafting on rootstocks not compatible with plum, but compatible with peach?
Peach interstem on peach rootstock (i.e. just a peach tree that is vigorous enough that I can spare branches to try making a Frankentree). I am not sure what peach rootstock it is however
