I mentioned that I lost two or three pears from a combo euro pear from raintree. Deer ate the grafts last winter. I am left with a Seckel and a Bartlett that do not pollinate each other. I might have a bit of Flemish Beauty left but I’m not really sure. Will an Abbe Fetel fertilize both the Seckel and the Barlett? I am having a difficult time finding a pear pollination chart with Abbe Fetel on it. Thanks
Mrs. G
You can try finding out pollination crossings here for fruit trees. I can’t say if it accurate or not
but it appears to be a quite extensive listing when I tried using it.Orange Pippin Pollination Checker

Generally two pears will cross-pollinate each other, seckel/bartlett is a rare exception. Here is a table from Raintree, you can see the only exceptions are that and a few where the bloom is really far apart. So I would probably assume you are OK until proven otherwise. Of course if you are grafting its always nice to add one more variety… pears are very easy to graft.
Thanks for the chart!
Thanks to you too Scott. Well, You’re right. why buy another tree when grafting a pear is easy. I’ll restart my own Euro Combo pear. Anyone out there growing rare varieties of heirloom French pears?
I used to have many of them… I think I still have 15 or so varieties left. Ask me for wood this winter. My favorite is Fondante des Moulins-Lille, its juicy and perfumed and fruits years before other Euro pears (for me it beat all the others by 4-5 years).
I’ll have to remember that variety. I have one spot left that was a nurse branch remaining on a Karp’s Sweet that I topworked to other quince and pears. It is listed on the Corvallis Germplasm Repository’s list of quince compatible varieties of pear. They say it is a true dwarf on quince.
Oh Scott, I will surely take you up on that! I doubt there is anything of mine that you might like, but you’re welcome to it!
