Pomegranate Order

I still have my Angel Red Patty so I think you meant to direct that to InfiniteFruit. Mine did die back quite a bit a few winters ago but is doing better now. Still waiting to taste the fruit though.

Thank you on two accounts for that post. It’s a mark of helpful character that you took the time to check and actually call more local sources for Ray. Also, thank you for the information on possibly interesting Charleston nurseries. It would be a lot more reasonable for me to travel an hour and a half to find plants I find interesting than making the 8 hr trips each way to ones I’ve shopped in Florida. Now I’ll have an excuse to visit one of my daughters when she moves there.

Greensea has it on their website, but you’re going to have to call them
in order to see, if they still have it. Most on line places have either stopped
taking orders or are stocked out.

Thanks Mark, I’ll call them monday and see what they have. I’m not looking
for Angel Red, but they might have others I want. Dianna, do you want to go
on a road trip? I do a lot of shopping in Charleston. It’s like a foreign country
compared to Columbia, and always has been.

That could be fun! We’ll have to talk about it.

Sorry, just skimmed over the post without fully reading. Hyams is very nice, knowledgeable but a little expensive. Angle Oak has lot of fruit trees and is a Dave Wilson dealer so they may have Parfianka. Flowertown Garden Center in Summerville and Abide-A-While in Mt Pleasant are also worth a call.

That’s what I have:

Alk Pust Ghermez Saveh
Austin
Bala Miursal
Desertnyi
Eversweet
Gissarskii Rozovyi
Hotuni Zigar
Lubimi
Myatadzhy
Parfianka x2
Phoenicia
Rannii
Syunt

At least that’s what they’re supposed to be, since mislabeling is possible. All my pomegranate trees have been planted in Spring 2014. I had 4 or 5 pieces of fruit last year but expect much more this coming fall.

It appears angel red is the only pomegranate they sell.

We’ve had a long thread on Mid Atlantic Poms, but the gist is plant the Russians and hope for the best. Suhr-Anor, Afganski, Al Sarin Nar, Lyubimi, Kazake, and Salavatski were the best hopes for 7B.

Yeah, but it’s starting to be very hard to find these varieties.
Greensea has lost my order 3 different times and Cindy
can’t even recollect even talking with me. I’m beginning to think
that her business has evolved into just a hobby with her.
I’m afraid that Rolling River has gone out of business, as they
don’t answer their phone, nor return messages, nor answer
emails. You can’t even place an order on line nor fax one to them.
So, you either rely on the big west coast nurseries, who aren’t taking
orders until next fall, or you’re SOL.

I have to retract the comments regarding Rolling River. They’re still in business. I finally got a phone call and was able to place my order. But if you’re ever planning on buying anything from Greensea, good luck. Between Raintree and RR I’ll have by the end of the month: Parfianka, Sin Pepe, Azadi, Eversweet, Vina, Balegal, and Sirenevyi. Now, to find a place to put them all.

This is an old conversation . . . but if it helps - I’ve been told that Rolling River has new owners. I placed an order . . . and had no experience, nor had heard any rumors about bad service. And - I received my order as promised. All packed so nicely! I was impressed. I do wish I had asked that it not be sent until late winter - or early spring . . . because now, I’m having to winter them over and it’s a pain!
I also ordered from Just Fruits and Exotics - and they are quite responsive. Just out of a lot of stock. People order early - and they hold the plants for them. The only thing left for Zone 7A-B, which I am . . . was Afganski. As of today, anyway.
GoOrganic is another good source. I placed an order with them, too. Just last night. (I’m on a Pom Obsession right now!) And it’s been a ‘long cold lonely winter’, as the song says . . . and I have gardening fever!
My husband and I are planning to create a small orchard this spring - and I’m trying lots of varieties, hoping that at least half ‘will like it here’.

For what it’s worth, I had a great interaction with Cindy at Greensea - although, full disclosure, I picked up on-site. She’s got a lot of nice pomegranates there.

Me too. She sent me a great list of varieties that are being studied. Very nice.

I think this is probably good advice. And I had the same story with the Angel Red. I tried it at least 2X and then gave up. This year . . . . Russkies!
