Ponderosa lemon #2

Citrus are way hardier than a lot of people expect. I’ve lived in the northern extreme of the commercial citrus belt for half my life and I’ve seen citrus handle some pretty wicked cold (by Northern California’s standards). We had 17 F three nights in a row and none of the citrus had much more than some leaf tip burn: We’ve had snow storms, ice storms, many times temps in the teens for several hours each event. Citrus always survive in this area, about 150 miles north of SF/Sacramento and 550 north of Los Angeles. The citrus that can survive outdoors around here are Meyer, navel, kumquat, mandarin, and all the Japanese cultivars like sudachi and yuzu, plus a few others. Some of those can endure temps into single digits. My meyer lemon trees get exposed to a lot of winter each year and always make a nice fruit set. There are also avocados that are super hardy and endure temps down to 11.
