Potted citrus - when to re-pot?

Is there a general rule about when to re-pot potted citrus? May be width of the foliage/pot diameter ratio or something like this? I have potted Owari Satsuma that is growing in air pruning pot like this: image ,
so root bounding is not an issue, but it would be interesting to know when it is not enough root volume for the tree to grow well.

I have a couple of citrus that have been in their pots for quite a while and I want to re-pot them. But when? The lime tree is fruiting, new fruits at various stages but none ready to pick. I figure re-potting now will disturb the roots and cause the fruit to abort.

I’d rather do it before I take them inside for the winter, but a freeze is due next weekend so I have to take them in this week - this always disturbs them and causes leaf drop. In the spring, they bloom.

They never seem to go dormant, when re-potting would safest. So - when?

I agree with you on this. Bringing them in for the winter is enough stress on them, so I wouldn’t re-pot now. Before growth resumes in early spring would be the ideal time.

It can be a narrow window

Questions with background- I see that late winter is best for up potting. But, my container citrus are indoors at 69-72 degrees, so they aren’t experiencing winter. 3 started profusely blooming after being brought in (stress, I’ve learned), 2 dropped a lot of leaves but those and the others are actively growing now. I’m worried that the whole late winter early spring approach to potting doesn’t really apply since they don’t have winter? Or, they thought winter was the month they spent at 45 to 60° outside before they were brought inside…the ones I need to up pot are in 3g’s and will have some fruit. Perhaps this is OK since I received my kishu covered in fruit and none dropped when I repotted it? I don’t need to disturb the soil too too much to do these.

The main concern is that the 10g kishu needs new, better draining soil. That will involve some more intense root disruption than simply up potting. It has new growth all over, but just started in the last maybe 10 days. Should I change its soil now? What are the odds the plant waits to bloom 3 more months and I can change soil in February when I up pot the others? How soon after new flushes of growth do blooms generally start? Without really knowing, actively blooming feels like the worst time to do this, pushing me to consider it now, but how bad would it be to shaken off the bottom 1/3 of soil when it has fruit set?
