Hoping I can get help with this problem. A white substance just showed up on some of my young apple trees and on one of my M111 EMLA111 Root stock as shown in the attached picture. Didn’t if this was an immediate problem or associated with time of year. Thanks in advance for any help.

That’s woolly aphids.

Not powdery mildew, which shows on the leaves, more or less evenly distributed and looks kind of like somebody sprayed a dull white/gray powder over things.

Hard to tell if aphids as the pic blurs when I try to expand it to a closeup. Just use warm soapy water to remove them, likely some form of aphid.

It’s wooly apple aphid. You must never have had them.

Thanks for the help in identifying the wooly aphids. I cleaned the spots and sprayed with Neem oil. Hopefully that will slow them down, will keep an eye on this. Glad to be a part of this site.
