Hello! I’m in Northern Nevada, zone 6b. I have three blackberries - a Prime Ark Traveler and two Triple Crowns - in pots outside, up against my house on the eastern side. The pots are about 5 gallons (going to up-pot next year).
Should I be worried about the roots being damaged/killed from cold? I was going to cover them with straw … but the feedstore is out, and we’ve officially hit our cold front (down to 9 F tonight). Not sure what to expect.
I’m in 6b and have two that over wintered last winter (it was a mild winter) and I still haven’t planted them in the ground. They are pretty tough…although I have a different variety, it’s still from the U of Arkansas program. Maybe Osage, I’ve forgotten.

I have triple crowns in the ground here in 5b. Been in the ground 5 years with no winter loss. Lows get down to -10° F on a regular basis and will stay there for a long time. February 2015 never got above 0°F in the entire month, and had no issues with loss.

Thank you both! I chickened out and brought them in - I’ll feel better about leaving them outside once I have some straw around the containers to “insulate” a bit.
