I was planning on pruning my apples and plums this weekend, as we’ve had consistent cold and I finally have some time. But I just looked ahead and there will be a significant drop next week. In SE PA, seeing 30Fs day, teens at night now; next week I expect it will go below zero at night for a few days.
Would I be better off waiting to prune? I’ve seen conflicting information on trees having 5-10 days of decreased cold tolerance after pruning. All trees are young, especially the apples. I grafted them myself in 2021 and am pruning to have very short trees on M111 rootstock. The varieties grafted are heirloom: golden russet, newton pippen, oxford black, york. All the plums are European prune plums.
Thank you for any advice!
