Purple Leaf Monarda (Bee Balm)

Anyone know of a variety of Monarda with purple leaves. The varieties called “purple” are usually referring to the flowers.

I have a shoot on my native Monarda that has deep purple leaves. We haven’t had enough cold yet to cause that kind of color change.

I’m wondering if this might be worth propogating. Anyone know of a Monarda expert?

I see foliage turn purple on Monarda without it getting cold. It seems it can be caused by other stresses too. You should keep an eye on it and see if it consistently gets purple color more fully and earlier in the season compared to other specimens. If it appears consistent on that plant, you’ll want to trial clones of it in other spots to make sure it isn’t something about that exact spot causing more stress (and therefore more color) to the plant.

Do you mean this? It grows wild native here, didn’t know the name only knew it was monarda from the look and scent. Had to look it up

No. I believe the common bee balm is Monarda didyma.
