Question about this forum

I have a question not about growing fruit, but about Growing Fruit (the forum). I have really enjoyed this site—people are helpful, no bots, no intrusive ads, it’s easy to search past answers. Just a really helpful old school message board (unlike the rest of the internet, which is mostly terrible). Genuine question, just out of curiosity: how much does running a website like this actually cost?

We will let @scottfsmith answer this in detail. The short answer is that it depends. The price is never the same from one month to the next. It is much like buying anything where the price changes. One month it costs more to store data than the next month. Thank you for joining the forum! Welcome!

Kris pointed to a post with a pretty good answer. Right now it’s costing $80 a month but it varies depending on usage and pricing from $70 to $150 per month. We should make it to 2027 or so before we need more money.

Thank you Scott and other admins for creating and managing this community. This year marks 10 years of successful running the growingfruit site. I have leaned great deal from forum members, and made friends through this site. It’s one of the best site on the internet with focused content, first hand experiences, and honest opinions that one can use as a reliable references in managing backyard and small commercial orchard.

Good point, I think I first started the forum on Feb 10th 2015. Our 10th birthday is coming up!

Ah…that is why another forum I am on does not allow members to post photos unless they pay.

Yes, posting pictures costs to the site. This site is members-supported and allow members to post pictures for free.

However, it is the best practice to post your pictures selectively. To download every picture you took is not advised as it is a waste of the site’s funds, careless and selfish.
