Questions not deserving of a whole thread

How do chill hours work with blueberry and blackberry buds? Do they need to have the cold on them after bud formation to set fruit? Does chill cause bud formation, so they won’t form buds until they have the required chill?

I know they are different species and may react different, but I have the same question for both.

I have a bunch of container citrus that I moved inside for the winter up here in New England. I put them under grow lights and at first, they seemed really happy And put on a lot of new growth. Then I added some more light and they stopped growing, except in the understory. I would be a little surprised if I was giving them too much light with grow lights, but is that possible for container citrus? Anyone have any experience?

My thoughts on chill hours is just the time idle with zero growth like during a dry spell, because I’ve noticed the plants most likely to bloom after a dry spell are ones with lower chill hours.

Thats why I was asking, because my Sharpblue blueberries are fully budded out while none of my other varieties are. Since we don’t have a long chill season, I was worried that the varietes that haven’t budded wouldn’t get needed chill hours on their buds if thats what needs to happen.

Just trying to figure out when in their growth cycle they get the chill hours matters or not.

I’ve found Citrus like to have day and night schedules so if it’s on all the time, they may be stressed.

They also have growth cycles as well so while the top may be chill, the bottom growth cycle may be on. From my observations, they like to grow, stop, grow, stop. The stop is anywhere from 2-3 weeks

It has been on 16/8 on a timer. Haven’t noticed those cycles before but that is possible too.

Question of Fruitwood VS Planting Justice.

I’ve ordered from Fruitwood but not planting justice. Are the plants identical in size. Or are planting justices a little bigger?

Never ordered from Fruitwood, but they are selling plugs so I would expect them to be smaller. I’ve ordered from PJ and much of what they sell is in those 4x10 pots. The trees I got from them were 2-3 foot.

Can someone help me confirm if this citrus tree is likely to be meiwa kumquat? Or is it possible to be a cross or a different, less common variety?

This image was taken on Jeju Island, South Korea, and the tree was growing on the side of the street. I can provide the exact coordinates as well as photos from Naver maps. The fruit were round, not oblong. The taste was sweet and very “orangey”, not sour. I don’t recall the color of the seeds or their amount.

Has anyone else had issues with the “reply to post” button not functioning properly lately?

When I reply to someone’s post using that button, my post just ends up looking like a normal “reply to topic” post. It doesn’t reference the post that I was attempting to reply to.

I’m hoping it’s not just me!

I had that happen yesterday, first time I’ve had that problem.

Looks like you’ve just had it a second time! At least, it looks that way on my end.

In my notifications, it showed that you replied to me. But here in the thread, it just looks like a normal post to me.

This message is a reply to yours. I’m guessing it won’t look that way though.

I think that the way it works is if your reply immediately follows the referenced post, then the reply looks like a normal post. If there are other posts in between, then the referenced post is shown.

Testing that theory by replying to my previous post! I’ll edit if it works.

Thanks @vitog - that is indeed how it works! So happy to understand it now, it has been driving me crazy!

Well for me it was showing it replied for me, but when I refreshed the page my post was gone. It lasted an hour of that before it went back to normal.

It happens to me now and then too. - replying to razer

Testing

Yep. Only replies to the main point but posts afterward looks normal

Is anyone able to confirm that the tree below is indeed a pear?

I’ve been scouring my overgrown field for wild pear seedlings to graft to. Tough to find while dormant among the autumn olive and multiflora rose. :frowning:

I’m pretty confident this is pear. It’s growing not too far from a mature pear that I topworked last year. Thoughts? It’s the only one I could find! The deer seem to keep these things mowed down.

I agree. I can practically feel the thorn on that last picture.
