Questions not deserving of a whole thread

I’ve heard there is a disease that doesn’t really cause problems for english or black walnuts by themselves, but will make the graft between the two fail, because they each deal with the differently if I remember right.

Walnut are hard to graft because they need to be warm/hot to form callus, I think? Like 85F or something? Somebody was doing it here successfully, but used a “hot pipe” setup IIRC. I’m allergic, so I didn’t look into it further.

What varieties of Japanese plum have brilliant purple fall foliage?

I’ve been looking for Clematis hirsutissima scottii plants for years. It is a native clematis variety (native to the northern plain states). Anyone grown/growing it and know of a source? i’ve tried seeds twice and had no luck with germination.

bare root peach tree coming this week, its a bit early for what I was planning, do you think I should plant it in ground? Looks like lows in the 20s. can also store in the garage, or plant it in a pot and keep it inside or something

Anyone got good spinning sprinkler recommendations? I have been using some cheap plastic ones, but after a few months (sometimes a month) they stop spinning correctly. I’ve tried to clean both the spinning part and the pipes but once they start not spinning they never go back.
So looking for some higher quality ones.

If the ground isn’t frozen I would say plant it, with critter protection.

Does this new growth look like its above the graft or rootstock? When I transplanted from treepot to big pot, it looked like it got sick a died. Not sure if thats what graft failure looks like or it was from disturbing the roots too much. Looked almost like how frost damage looks (but it was in September).

do you guys think i should seal the top of my peach tree i just planted? It was cut at the top for shipping. IF so, how would you recommend, just parafilm?

Idk if i should be concerned about peach borers or something

Has anyone ordered any grafting scions yet? Do tell.

I’ve got a fig tree that I’m trying to grow in pots, but don’t have a cold room, or some sort of cool storage other than a fridge to give a dormant time to the plants. I’m in central Saskatchewan. I’m wondering if anyone else has had good experiences keeping some other kind of fruit indoors through the winter just in a bright window or under supplemental lighting if needed. I’m thinking of some citrus (which have seemed to be really buggy but the time they arrive here), or chilean guava, or some other interesting idea you have. I’m interested in something that would do alright indoors through the winter, then I can take the pot outside for the summer.
What fruit been successful for you? Thanks

Will these branches/trunks be okay growing together, or must I prune one? I’m mainly concerned about the white one growing straight up. It’s a mexicola avocado tree. Thanks

I’d cut off the middle branch in first picture, not a good attachment to the tree.

agree, looks like too narrow an angle. look into branch spreaders for future growth if this guy tends to put out branches like this

yeah. too narrow crotch angles. my black ice plum had some like that and i lost 2 1in. branches with fruit on them this summer. if you dont fix it mother nature will do it for you eventually.
