Raccoon Damage?

I have a small Mulberry tree(even smaller now)in the front yard and came out this morning to some broken branches.
My guess is a Raccoon climbed up to get fruit.
I’m planning to dig the thing up this Fall anyway,to give away, but didn’t want see this.Oh well, they grow fast. Brady

Or opossum. They really can climb well. Years ago I saw a small opossum climbing up a fruit tree planted in a 15 gallon pot, which was next to a dozen or so other 15 gallon potted fruit trees. The particular tree that the little opossum chose to climb was the only one with a cardinal bird nest in it. Yes, I did interrupt “nature” and de-opossum that fruit tree quickly. But a couple days later I saw a crow flying away from that same tree with a baby cardinal in it’s grasp and a helpless adult cardinal flying after it. Life is tough.
