Definitely no fix it all especially considering we all liver in different places with different issues.
I love your description of what kind of grower you are. Same here.
Me, all I have wildlife wise are birds and squirrels. I am really tempted to build a few large enclosures for grouped trees…using posts and screening. I can eliminate access from those two critters (though it might not be the most attractive way to go).
Of course after the time and expense of doing so, all my trees are likely to die of disease and insects…
I think growing fruit is going through a series of trials and errors, maybe the challenge is half the fun. I’m a very newbie newbie regarding growing fruit, but seriously since joined growing fruit, I’ve learned and adapted better ways of doing things. So hopefully we will have better results in the future.
Found pictures of Japanese orchard farmers use similar way to protect their fruits.
But more clever. The the container and fruits inside directly are shipped to supermarket for sale
I actually looked into it before. Of course over here I would have no way to know the quality of the mold.
My biggest concern would be knowing if the volume of the mold would be appropriate for whatever variety of fruit I would put it on.
Too small and I’d think the shape mold would break. Too small and it wouldn’t shape well.
Maybe it isn’t that complicated and the fruit would simply stop sizing once it filled the mold…
Anyway I would also be curious if there would be any disease issues with the shape mold. Is it air tight? Would the humidity inside lead to issues… Etc etc, etc.
I can’t stand to see these confined fruits. I felt they didn’t have freedom of growing up. But, I have heard they are sold in higher price because Japanese like to gift each other with fruits. Molded fruits are certainly a good gift. I would accept one time of Molded fruits just to satisfy my curiosity. Second time I would politely say, a natural shape watermelon please
These are ventilated container. Fruits will not mold inside.
You can see the holes in this picture. Even not ventilated regular grape bag will not cause grapes inside to mold. I use regular grape bag for my grapes, mainly to provide
some protection from birds, wasps and other insects. No molding issues
If the trees were trained right at the beginning, duct pipe works like a dream. My other Saturn peach tree was accidentally pruned by the deers to the right shape, it’s a 5 minutes work for putting up the duct pipe and so far no deers, no squirrels, no raccoons even tried to bother with it.
Yes, I do have electric fence around my vegetable gardens and tanglefoot on some of my pear trees.
Thanks. I may have to cut off a bunch of figs just so I don’t go crazy bagging. Am ready to smear Tanglefoot on sections I wrapped with easy to use trainer’s wrap that sticks to itself.
