Re-refrigerating bare root strawberries

Ordered bare root strawberries. Let them sit in the fridge for a while until all possible late frosts could pass. Took them out today, and rehydrated them in water for a couple of hours. Couldn’t get them all in the ground because it got dark outside. Will they die if put back in the fridge for tomorrow evening?

All strawberry planting guides seem to emphasize not keeping them in water for too long, only taking them outwhen ready to plant, and not burying the crown. The second advice is what I’m worried about.

Nah they will be fine. I have a buddy who refrigerates his strawberries when they get to hot to get them going again earlier

Get em out of the water and into some lightly moist coco or potting soil

No…they might even last a week if put in the shade of a tree and not ‘re-refrigerated’ if they were good healthy plants to begin with.

if you put them back in a plastic bag. you can re-fridge them. Just make sure the bag is not filled with moisture if you wanna store them longer. (few drops is fine. But not a lot of “standing” water.

you can also temporarely heel them in outside, like we do with fruit tree’s. or in some damp coc-peat.

Planting depth is inportant. To avoid rot and disease problems. Depending on the age of the plans you usualy burry half the heart. There is usualy a spot where there are roots coming from the heart. You just bury that. But never the spot where new leaves sprout.
