January 30, is the start of repotting Citrus and figs, no fun times, especially with large containers. Our trained dog will test each one before usage. Trying out new pots, made in Italy, hope they are strong, like the open handles to stick rebar through so containers don’t blow over. $ 8.00 each. 35L.( 10 gl )…??
Have a total of 40 containers, might do just a dozen before I peter out, most containers are 15 gl.
Potting up…good times. It’s gardening in the winter. Those look like sturdy pots. Where did you get them? I’m in the market for pots for my bench grafts this spring. What are you using as your potting medium? I feel like I have a ton of time, but it will sneak up on me.
Small grafted tree doesn’t need that large of a pot. A 5 gl Rootmaker pot would be a good choice. For that you could use Berger 7. For you, it’s a very good starter mix. That mix is good for 2 years.
I buy these containers at my local Hydroponic store.
Looks like a grow pro pot. I have 40 gallon grow pro pots for my cherry trees. They are pretty durable but are pretty light. Can be a total pain to get though.
I have been thinking of using rubbermaid garbage bins. The kind you can put on rollers. I know they make 10, 20, and 32 gallon size. Easy to find.
I recycle pots…most of mine are pre-used.
But, I did break down and buy 75 1.5 gallon pots last spring since I had 100 B-9 rootstocks and if a one gallon didn’t contain the plant, then this one did in most cases. 2 and 3 gallon pots also available if necessary.
Then, over time, I upsize in 6 months to 3 years.
