Red Cinnamon Apple

I wanted to start a thread for this apple for organization. This is an apple sold by @39thparallel that gets great reviews and claims to taste like cinnamon. I grafted one myself last year and its slowly growing at my place on G11 rootstock. For some reason, most of the graft died over winter (my only apple to ever do this) which had to be for some unknown reason because it comes from Russia (I believe) so it has to be plenty hardy. Luckily, it sprouted above the graft union and is on it’s way again this year. My only observation so far is that it’s susceptible to CAR and hasn’t been vigorous at all, which may be due to it’s beginning in life. I’m very excited and hopeful for this variety - I’d love to hear from any others about it who are growing it or have experience eating it!

I got two, small bench-grafted Red Cinnamon trees from 39th Parallel this spring. Both have been growing pretty well for their size, but last I checked, one had randomly begun wilting as if it was going to die. Hopefully ut pulls through, but if not, at least I’ll still have the other to eventually try fruit from.

Huh. I have scions of Red Cinnamon in the fridge. Anyone know the chill hours?

I’ve had two RC trees for a couple years now, but they still have not fruited. Not super aggressive growers, but I’ve had no problems with CAR or anything else for that matter. With it’s thin skin fruit I do expect to have insect issues though.

I’ve got one that I grafted to m111 spring of '24. It saw -32 with very little snow cover last winter and is alive and growing now. I’ll tentatively give it 2 thumbs up for winter hardiness in central MN.

I also have a limb graft on a wild crab, that was grafted in '23. It is alive and growing too.

Neither graft is vigorous, but not many varieties are here
