Red spots on peach tree leaves

Bumping this thread rather than starting a new one because I have a very similar problem.

Last year my freshly planted frost peach looked great. After a very cold spring in BC it burst out a bunch of showy leaves and grew considerably.

The following year (this year) we had a super cold winter (down to -30 C) and cold spring up until April. It leafed out when temps finally warmed up in May, but it was quickly obvious something was wrong… several branches with buds on them died back without foliating, and the new leaves were yellowish. Over the past month it’s continued to decline, (shown in photos). These are the likely causes based on the info above, and it’s probably more than one of them:

  • Needs nitrogen. I recently applied so we’ll see how that goes. Very rocky and dry soil means I have to water frequently which probably doesn’t help.
  • Cold winter may have stressed it
  • X disease. I have tons of chokecherries on the property and realistically won’t be getting rid of them since they grow on a steep slope and the wildlife loves them. Hopefully this peach can fight it off better when fertilized properly.
