Redhaven peach tree got attacked by bugs

What is it? This tree produced OK for 2 seasons. Then this happened in 3rd season. What is it called?

There are many previous threads which people have asked this same questions about peach problems and received good answers.

You can use the search function to find those answers. The search function is a looking glass symbol on the top right corner the page.

Click on the symbol. A dialog box will show up. Type in key words like “peach problems”. A lot of threads will show up for you to read.

Use the search function will likely help you find answers you look for on many other issues, too.

Chat GPT thinks it Plum Curculio

Sometimes newly established plots see reduced or no disease or pest pressure. Once fruit production starts, that all changes. It may have taken a while for the Plum Curculio to find your place. I’ve read the small hive beetle can smell a beehive in distress 10 miles away.

Now that they’re there, unless you have deer and squirrel to clean up infected fruit, you’ll need bag or burn it. Do not leave that mess on the ground. They will nail your apples and plums as well.

Trouble is it takes lots of time to look and still not find the answer. I got it right here and no wasted time.

Yep…looks like Plum Curculio.

Thanks.

Do you think the odd spring weather we had contributed to it?

I don’t think the spring weather contributed much to the PC. I’d anticipated the big temp drop we all experienced in April would reduce their pressure though I’m by no means a PC expert. Most likely you’re getting the problem of having a more mature orchard and why a lot of people think growing fruit is easy the first few years and the pest pressures slowly build up over time as the pests multiply.

I’ve found very good success using a spray program (Scott’s low impact spray schedule for example). Spray Surround as soon as shuck split and then after every heavy rain or every 10 days or so , whichever is sooner.

I’m of the opinion nice weather means more opportunities for bugs to work. That includes both the good and the bad. Curc pressure was brutal this year in NW NC. It hardly rained.
