Reviewing Nurseries

Not many places do any better than that.

@anon89542713, Edible Landscaping or eat-it.com sold me a pear tree for $23, it’s in pot, it’s bigger than the one I purchased from Planting Justice, but that one is now starting to grow too, pretty similar pears, Shin Li and DaiSui Li.

One Green world – A+

This is the third year I’ve placed a mid-Summer order with them.
Size one gallon. Price certainly reasonable for these full gallon plants. FedEx rates also reasonable (althogh the delivery driver left package at neighbors. :frowning:

Plants shipped on a Thursday from Oregon to Kentucky…and received in fine shape on Tuesday. Very nice and heavy box and packing…plants almost too wet in pots, but no leaking into the box due to very thorough wrapping of the pots. Bamboo kept plants in place in the shipping carton.

Happy with my Morris Burton Persimmon 3G. It was $35 at Rural king and likely same price at Walmart. Only other source online i see selling it wants $100+

Chestnut Hill Nursery is shipping displays to Rural King and Walmart in alot of states if you are looking for a Persimmon, Mulberry, Crabapple, or Chestnut trees.

Looks like you can order their trees online for about $10 more each plus shipping if you are looking for a Morris Burton, Prok or Yates persimmon…i think you have to ask them.

Trees look immaculate and healthy at my locations.

Click on the tabs to see if your state or store is getting a shipment or has already gotten it.

I’ve never seen a persimmon for sale at Walmart… Maybe I need to look harder. Was this a recent purchase?

I’ve seen in previous springtime at the box stores. Tractor Supply the best bet in fall I’d imagine of the box stores. They had them when I bought figs last fall.

The chestnut hill link above has a spreadsheet showing shipments to each store (Walmart & RK). They shipped several weeks ago. I took a drive to the nearest RK. They had about 3 dozen chestnuts, half a dozen mulberries but no persimmons,

How much was it?

How has Bay Laurel been the last year or two? Are they still sending heavily pruned bareroot trees?

If you are a fruit hunter… Roger Ort has a nice list of hard to find stuff and has a nice Fall 2023 collection. Probably the most diverse nursery i have seen. But you have to visit him…he doesnt ship. If i went i would be broke.

I hate when I find what I want and they don’t ship. But I will say I have received mail order stuff that I wished wasn’t shipped as they were a mess when arrived. On the other extreme I have got stuff that was Gorilla proof being so well packaged. One had written instructions on the box as to what nylon strings to cut first before opening box.

I’d probably buy a couple of his mulberries if I lived close enough for a visit.

Leaving a review for Rock Bridge Trees. I ordered some hickories and various other trees and not only were they packed ingeniously, probably the best I’ve seen (almost impossible to damage but incredibly easy to remove from the box), but they were also great specimens, and they’re grown in fabric pots with pretty root systems

@Buckeye

Did you happen to take a photo of the way they packed your trees?

I’ve always wondered why they don’t alternate top and bottom to fit better, especially if they are on soil. Usually they are taped in such a way that the soil won’t fall out anyway.

I don’t have a pic of them in the box, but here are some of the persimmons I unboxed. They were in fact packed facing each other as you suggest, which also served to keep the box balanced. The plastic bag was tied with the cord to keep the soil in. The bamboo was secured to the tree and the cardboard topper kept it stable inside the box. All I had to do was open each box end and slide the pots out. Nothing was taped or stapled, which is how a lot of nurseries send them (which does seem to keep things from getting damaged but can be a bear to remove). I got them ready for planting today and just had to cut the cord which was much better than peeling tape off of everything.
