Romanesco Cauliflower

I’ve tried a couple times to grow Romanesco Cauliflower, this is finally my year!

Do you use Sevin dust on your vegetables to take care of the pests?

This is the first time I haven’t had to treat cauliflower/cabbage/broccoli for pests. I usually use Bt or Spinosad.

Oh I love Romanesco. Growing through the colder months is the way to go. That is just beautiful. I’m experimenting trying to grow it over the summer - which is brutal here, pest wise, and heat wise, but I’m trying row cover plus aluminet plus a clear netting to keep the bugs off. There are plenty that come up from the soil I’m finding. Trying to figure how to make it work.
So when did you seed these (inside?) and xplant them?

Started them mid March and transplanted mid April, or something like that.

We’re growing cole crops under floating covers for the first time this year and I think I like it, they sure do.

Nice. I think floating row cover may be sufficient until July in my zone, after that I see too much heat stress, so I’m adding more shading at that time.

the one I use has at 10-15% light reduction

My aluminet has 70% light reduction…but our July and August are really brutal.
Whoops: I’m also experimenting with it to see if I can get my lettuce to form heads and not bolt.
