Root graft success

The Dolgo rootstock I recieved from Blue Hill nursery had incredible roots, far too big to fit in the 3 gallon grow bags I use so out came the pruners to make them fix.

So then I was left with some very nice pieces of roots.

I couldn’t just throw them away  so I used a cleft graft and wrapped them with parafilm.

I’m happy to report that the majority of them “took” and the few that failed sent up shoots that I will graft to next year.

Glad to hear this worked well!

I hope to dig up some callery pear roots and give it a try with grafting pears in the spring.
