Rooting from Cutting/Burr Knot style Apple Trees

Burr Knot, Cornish Aromatic, Lord Burghley, Winter Banana, Ben’s Red, Captain Broad, Empire and Gala are all said to be Rootable from cutting via burr knots. Old Georgia Variety Tarbutton too.

Has anyone tried it?

M26 makes tons of bur knots and they definitely root easily.

I’ve also stuck m111 pieces I’ve cut off before grounding in the ground and they’ve pretty much all rooted.

I’ve tried rooting the cut-off portion of M-111 rootstock multiple times over the past 4 or 5 years. Typically none or occasionally one might root. This year I scraped at the bark far more aggressively. Stuck 7 in pots, all 7 rooted and I’ll hopefully graft onto them next year. More or less perpetual rootstock that way I hope…
