Rooting Spicebush

I purchased spicebush (lindera benzoin) seeds last winter and have had zero success germinating them.

I both stratified indoors as well as winter sowed seed.

A coworker told me she can get cuttings from her neighbor and I figured what the heck, sure.

I’m assuming I would prefer new growth (or 1 year old), but has anyone here successfully rooted these?

Good luck - keep us posted because I’ve had the same question.

The seeds must have been no good. I’ve found them very easy to germinate with 90 days cold stratification. I think rooting will be challenging, but what have you got to lose?

Here’s the advice I used:

I’ve also had great success with seeds.

Definitely. In fact, I had a harder time growing them on than sprouting, but that was a bad drought year and I underestimated our local bunny population’s desire to sample new foods.

I had trouble with the seeds too, but I was lucky that a few actually sprouted. Much less than I was expecting though.
