Roses 2026

Been looking for a rose thread and can not find it so i figured I’d create one.

I’m thinking about getting more rose plants because i finally managed to make all of mine happy. Also people have been asking to buy bouquets and all the ones in the store don’t smell like anything  while all of mine except a purple one, smells smelly but the good smelly. And rose bouquets are expensiveeeee. I don’t like cutting my flowers but when people start offering 6-10$ for a single flower :upside_down_face::melting_face: i fold lol.

Anyways, I neglected them all last year and chuhily did not make it due to stress with me being gone for a quarter of the year and not being watered at that time but! Everyone else did and I’ve been repotting them.

I can’t believe i got a Marc Chagall rose tree for only 30$ at home depot last year!

Current photos are of the Marc C. and Life of the Party

My rose obsession started with Enchanted Peace in Colorado Springs but it died. I bought a few trees last year but got overwhelmed by everything so they sat neglected but thrived even. This year, I’ve managed to repot all but 1 so far but i plan on repotting that one this weekend. I sold enough strawberries over the last few weeks to put a few fragrant varieties in the online shopping carts but I’m thinking of going on a hunt at the local nurseries first before ordering. My chuhily sprouted long rose stems from the base and I’m thinking of making my own rose trees from them as well instead of just trashing the plant. Literally whatever grew from it has made a perfect 3 and 4ft stem to graft on lol.

Always, here’s some photos from last year as well. Can’t wait to add more later this year! I’m also going to go buy another chuhily to replace the one I killed because it’s just so pretty!

Love roses. Its unfortunate but usually the ones bred for cut flowers have less good of a smell. I dont grow any specifically for cut flowers I like them in landscaping

My obsession started with my new house which had 3 of the worst cared for knockout roses you’ve ever seen. Replaced them and I just keep adding new ones now…

not to hijack the thread but which varieties are the best for hip production? seen some huge ones along the Maine coast. i think theyre a invasive one. hips over a quarter in size.

We have wild ones that have quarter sized hips that the plant only grows 1-2 feet tall and don’t sucker or anything, just see very tiny little rose bushes occasionally in the pasture.
Have a bush type that produces nickel sized fruit on a 4-5’ bush.
Would love to get a hold of a cili fruit rose just for the hips, because pictures look impressive-

Double knockout rose, no fragrance.

Has some sort of disease on the knockout that basically kills all the canes before they get very old or tall.

Love this rose, because it has a very strong aroma reminiscent of grapefruit.

This one has a milder fruity smell.

Thank you! I always wondered what it was and was curious what it was, never thought it would identifiable, but that matches the description perfectly.

My wife and I are really into roses. By accident basically. 2 years ago I saw a clearance rack with $3 “body bag” style bare root roses, and I bought like 25 of them for Valentines day. We spent all night potting them up. The next year, I saw the same sale again, and bought another 25 more if I remember right. Probably 10 died. We have kept them in pots so far, we keep talking about laying an actual rose garden but planning the space/irrigation/layout has necessitated keeping them in pots so far. The cool thing is they’re literally right out the front door, so we get to keep an eye on them closely.

I’ve never seen a rose hip like that.

I sometimes walk around the city I live and see roses in quite a few yards. Some have huge tasty hips, and others don’t. I might walk around later and take cuttings.
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations on good rose cultivars?
Also good places to buy them?

For a red climber, it is very hard to beat Don Juan.

The most fragrant rose I’ve ever smelled is John F Kennedy.

Sure, but it probably won’t be this summer unless you really want now. Just remind me when the time comes and I’ll see if I can get one.

I used to be crazy about roses for several years. Then, I’ve found fruit trees and become obsessed over them.

I still have some roses and remember some online rose nurseries. A few have gone out of business or got bought out like Jackson&Perkins.

These rose nurseries are still around, in no particular order.
Rose Unlimited nursery
Heirloom roses nursery
High Country Roses nursery
Antique Rose Emporium nursery
David Austin Roses nursery

If you want to know about a particular rose, on a search engine, type in Helpmefind and the name of that rose.
For example, on Google, type in “Helpmefind Julia Child rose”. The info will show up. Type Helpmefind in one word, no space.

Rugosa is one that is often grown specifically for large hips. The flowers are simple.

Florentina has been a absolutely prolific climber and made as many as 9 roses on one stalk. It is like Don Juan, but maybe better. A little tighter petal pattern/ruffle.

Fourth of July

Pinata

Iceberg

Love and Peace

Those are some of our favorites. We are in 8b.
