My wife says the multi variety top worked apple I grafted, is a “Science Experiment”. Yet all 6 scions have taken. So does that mean its a successful science experiment? Is it truthful to say 7 varieties including the crab apple rootstock?

Science no, success yes for sure. Nice going. I like it…!!
If it were mine, I’d prune those shoots back to an outward growing bud. They need to be stiffened up so that the experiment doesn’t flop…as in flop over.

I don’t see why not. I’ve heard that some stock will reject some cultivars due to incompatibility but I’ve had great luck so far with my frankentrees.

I have 2 Jplums… and have grafted on 7 other varieties.
9 varieties now… hoping some of those somehow survive our late frosts every now and then.

My Norfolk Beefing top graft is teasing me. It has gone from brown to very green with swelling buds. A Wickson graft from Saturday is about to explode. It is weird how trees wake up and get going.
