Have you folks seen such a thing happen? Are these just really delayed spurs? A sign of a problem? Absolutely normal? There’s a bunch of them all over.
Some of the apples are already penny size.

I’ve not seen that on my Liberty.
I had that happen last year on my Pristine. It first bloomed in mid April, then again in mid May. Nothing set from the first flush, nor the second. Soon after the second flush, I got a fireblight strike on that limb. I had to prune that off.
Not saying it’ll happen to you, but I’d keep an eye on that late flush.
My Lib was full of blooms, but I lost most of them to freezes last month.
Thanks! I thought I did see a bit of fire blight on a leaf, but not even sure that’s a thing. Nothing at the tips. Yanked it off and trashed it. I’ll keep an eye out.
The first set of blooms were hit by some high heat. They were downright ugly. I thought they may not have made it, but the sucker is loaded with tiny apples.
My Liberty, Yates, and Arkansas Black tend to do the same. My opinion is that it happens on my trees that bloom late and are getting questionable needed chill hours. I don’t worry much about it I just mostly rub off really late blooms and take what the variety offers.
It was a very warm winter here, but my area still received over 900 chill hours. Interesting though. Glad I’m not the only one.
Liberty seems to surprise me with more blooms than I first think I have on it. Like they pop up from areas that look like they are just going to be leaves and then buds push out from them.
Liberty is a really good tasting apple to me and loosing a few is okay.
My Lib bloomed last year after 3 years in the ground. I only got to taste 2 apples off it, and they were past their prime. But, I do like the ones we’ve got from the orchard. Pretty tart, but all around good flavor, plus it has a nice deep red color to it.
I have to be careful and pick a little before full color. If picked at the right stage they are one of my best. Williams Pride is the same way.
They ripen unevenly too.
Like Auburn says, you can lose a few. It’s a pretty productive tree, so that helps.
I got about 6 apples from my 2nd year liberty, after thinning. They were really good. It’s loaded with blossoms this year (3rd year). It hasn’t had a second bloom in one season. I grafted over some crabs to liberty because they were really good and clean apples with minimal spray.
My pears and apples have been flowering continuously for a month now. Every time I think they are done more flowers show up. That’s on quite a few trees as well. Think the weather has caused it with it’s up and down temps and rain.
