Are you sure her tree is actually an apple? Mislabeled trees happen when not just the variety but the species is wrong.

Good point. I asked her the same question as well. When I see her again at the hardware store I’ll bring up all these points up this thread comes up with. If the tree is not a real fruit producing type of apple tree, not a crab apple, then it is a mute point. Can’t get apples off a elm tree.

The most numbers of years for me to wait is 4, and if it isn’t producing, it will surely be grafted over, and I will still retain a branch or two.
