Show Off Your Figs and "This year Harvest"

Wow, that Moscatel Preto looks crazy inside! I just acquired that variety from the ever-generous eboone. Really looking forward to trying it, hopefully next year.

The main crop tastes much better and is very abundant.

Andrew, how do you rate your Moscatel fig? Mine is now going bonkers but not showing any figlets yet, about 4 feet tall now. Super large leaves. They are in 10 gl containers, same with B/G. Thanks again.

Bob,.

Try to tip pinch now and see if it will promote the maincrop.

Tony, the tree has 3 branches, had to pinch the center one for the other 2 to catch up. They are almost equal. Like to shape the tree a little better, maybe next year get to taste a few. After the other two are equal in length I will pinch them to, hopefully they grow a few nice side branches.

Put it in a lot of sun and give it some bloom booster fertilizer. Maybe that would help too. The taste is very good and quite unique for a fig in my opinion. It becomes very productive too.

Andrew, I wasn’t going to collect any more figs. 2020 was the absolute stop to add any more fig tree’s. 2021, today I counted 12 more fig tree’s. I think I remember how it started again, Andrew, Drew, ……??
I am not interested in the world next best tasting fig, but thanks all.

Breba Alert !
Troiano Calabrese Breba. I do not know how cold hardy it is because it is in 7 gallons pot but sets about 40+ Breba and 20+ main crop. This is the highest number of breba figs sets on my potted figs ever but not much vegetative growth on plant. It is a good fig.

Largest fig I ever grow, bigger than extra large egg. This year the figs are growing well in general

Do you know name of the fig ?

It has name when I first got it. But over the time, the tag got lost and I grow more figs cultivars so I don’t remember its name anymore

Another Nero 600M breba today. They are tasting better now that it stopped raining for a few days. Still not amazing compared to the very abundant main crop forming.

More on the transplanted fig recovery! Next year, maybe I’ll have fruit to show off!

Figo Preto, picked too early, buts it’s so hard to wait. Nice complex fig flavor that you get in the best varieties.

Like a fruity hershey kiss! Did you give it a head start? Mine are at least 6 weeks away from ripening.

Yeah, this tree grows in my greenhouse. I would have had them earlier, but I made the mistake of using neem oil too often and it burned all the leaves. So, the plant had to form new leaves which took months.

Do you find fig leaves to be more sensitive to neem oil? I had something like that happen to my figs so I quit spraying them. I’ve never had a problem with other fruit trees.

Yes, I can spray other plants every third day with neem and no issues. However, figa are very sensitive when in any sort of lighted conditions. It makes treating for spider mites more difficult. They also burn very easy from miticides. I am using azamax now, so hopefully no issues with that. I spray very sparingly.

I use a sulfur with pyrethrin spray that does a good job killing mites on figs. Not too concentrated though or the newest leaves will get a little burnt.

One of my favorite. You are going to love it and took me a while to figure out when to pick. I guess about three days early.
