Show your funny apple leaf morphs

After posting this in a red leaf fruit thread, I thought it would be fun to have a thread all about weird apple leaf morphs. Sorry if this seems like a double post since it’s in another thread. But this thread will be about morphs of leaves and not “Red” leaves fruit exclusively. So without further text, I show you my funny maple leaf apple morph. Sprouted from a grocery store Lucy glow apple seed. This thing cracks me up every time I see it. Its so odd…

Not nearly as interesting as the lobeing on yours and this picture doesn’t display it well but the old growth on this goes deep green with red veining which look awesome to me. Its open pollenated so who knows what the fruit or fowers will be like but a neat specimen tree for sure. I’d like to get some of @SkillCult’s Hella Kitty for the chartreuse leaf color and see if the red veining can be carried over as an ornamental aspect.

That’s way cool. Maple leaved apples!

My two most weird are probably Hella Kitty with very light green, almost yellowish leaves, and a seedling with curly leaf edges. The curling is not consistent. Some leaves have a little, some a lot, some none. the apple is decent and cool looking in an old school, rustic, russety way.

Those deeply lobed leaves are beautiful! And the coloured ones, and the pale green curled ones look almost like lettuce.

A few days ago I noticed one of my seedlings has almost hawthorn like leaves. It grew from the only seed in the fruit which was small and misshapen, handed to me by a colleague who had picked it up in a garden they had visited because by now everyone knows me as the person with a weird apple fascination.

Two years ago I collected some red crabs from a development entrance. My guess is they are Dolgo. These saplings are from seeds from 2 apples from the same tree. It’s cool how they have green leaves with red hints to all red leaves in their variation. All have red stems/veins. More color appeal than leave morphology

That is wild. I saw the photo while reading the post and was like “but why is there only a picture of a maple???” Now I feel like that person who couldn’t tell a pear from a plum. I didn’t know apples could do that!

I ordered a package of 10 pacific crabs and 10 maples from Burnt Ridge nursery, and when the leaves were small, it was hard for me to tell them apart. The crabs definitely have lobed leaves, just not as big as those of the maples.
