Showing off variety of fruits :)

Really happy with the variety coming off my allotment after three years! Just harvested 2kg of blackcurrants and quite a bit of other fruit.

For future reference, these are the species, from left to right on top picture:

  • Ribes nigrum (blackcurrant)
  • Amelanchier alnifolia (Martin saskatoon)
  • Lonicera caerulea (Boreal Beauty haskap)
  • Rubus ursinus × idaeus (Tayberry)
  • Prunus cerasus × fruticosa (Carmine Jewel bush cherry)
  • Rubus idaeus (raspberry)
  • Fragaria × ananassa (Mieze Schindler strawberry)
  • Ribes rubra (red currant)
  • Ribes uva-crispa (gooseberry)
  • Fragaria × ananassa (white strawberry)
  • Ribes rubra (white currant)
  • Prunus tomentosa (Snövit nanking cherry)

What’s the white thing on the far right? Nanking ?

Well-spotted! White-fruited nanking indeed. I guess that is the most difficult one to recognize (if we only go to species level).

Although… that tiny Rubus arcticus fruit in the bottom-left picture is perhaps a bit more tricky, but I don’t get much of a harvest off those yet.
Here in the Netherlands Amelanchier/saskatoon fruit is also very little known. People grow ornamental cultivars, but not these tasty juicy ones (Martin and Sleyt) and probably think they’re poisonous.
