Found this little guy while digging potatoes. I’m assuming garter snake, but he/she isn’t striped…any ideas? I am in Maryland.
Not aggressive, but found my presence annoying, and scurried away.

King snake? It’s been while, I could be wrong.

It looks like a Dekay’s brown snake, scientific name Storeria dekayi. They’re small snakes, that’s about as big as they get. I believe they eat slugs and worms.
