I don’t know. I am currently using Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer for codling moth control; it is labelled for that and currently is working well. But I don’t plan to use it all season- I will switch to Spinosad after my next spray.
I used Once and Done before and it also worked well, but it apparently is no longer labelled that way.
I called Spectracide, and they have the same active ingredients. Must just be a name change. The name “Once and Done” wouldn’t sell as much product as “use every 7 to 10 days!”
I don’t know why I didn’t think of calling- good idea!
Keep in mind though that even though they might want you to use it every 7-10 days there are restrictions- the label says that you can use it 9 times a season, but only 5 times after petal fall. So you could be unprotected in a month or two.
It’s also good practice to switch out whatever you’re using so that the critturs don’t build resistance so quickly. I’ll use Spectracide again when I spray tomorrow, but after that I’ll stick with spinosad for the season. I should also add that I used a dormant strength oil just before blossom break, in hopes of smothering emerging codling moths and whatever else.
At the moment I’m not seeing any CM stings, but I’m not positive on what to attribute the success to, and I know that “success” could change at any time!
My issue has been OFM. I was using Bonide Fruit tree spray and what I have heard here, not very effective. But also my timing could have been off. What I was thinking as petal fall was more like early shuck. I need to learn how to look at a withered bloom/flower and say it’s pollinated, time to spray!
I should also use my dormant spray just before bud break. I did use it, but maybe a month before bud break.
I have no experience at all with OFM, but I don’t think the Bonide is considered to be particularly effective against it.
I’m trying to be more proactive with dormant oil. In the past I’ve neglected it but this year was better.
