Spraying leaves down when hot?

So, I know there are not a lot of avocado growers on this site, but I read an article regarding spraying an avocado trees leaves down with water to help with transpiration during very hot days. To me this seems like it would create a magnifying glass effect and burn the leaves. But it came from a respected author and wanted to hear any other thoughts?

On smooth foliage where water droplets flatten out, the focal point of the droplet is not at the leaf surface, no burning occurs.
