Squash bug control

What do you folks do for squash bugs in melons? I’m starting to see them and they can get bad here.

I’ve been looking for this info, but for darn vine borers since they and cucumber beetles were a scourge for me last year and killed by pumpkins (assuming borer) and gave my cucumbers bacterial wilt.

I used acetamiprid once to control cucumber beetles, squash vine borer, and probably to a lesser extent squash bugs (I stopped applying it at some point). However, I think my use of it was off label as a consumer product (and likely soon you won’t be able to fine neonics as consumer products for PR reasons). I do see that Assail is listed in this U KY publication though http://www2.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/pubs/id/id36/106-end.pdf I suspect my reasoning at the time was if the AI was labeled in another product, it was fine.

I grew many more than 200 mini pumpkins to use as a seating card and wedding favor for our guests. Of course to get 200 mini pumpkins that look perfect, I had to grow about 50% more than I needed.

Sevin will work ok, malathion also works, both are hard on pollinators. Thiram works well, fumes will kill you fast! There is an artificial pyrethroid that I can’t think of the name now, I’ll look in the morning, Similar to Assail.
