Squash vine borer, what to do?

I found my giant pumpkin vines have squash vine borer. I cut open and dug some out. but there are some difficult to operate areas that I am thinking about injecting some pesticides into the stem to kill the borer. But I am worried about the pesticides may do more harm than good to the vine if it is not used properly. Has anyone tried to inject pesticides into a plant? Which pesticides do you use? At what concentration? And was the method effective?

Did you inject it into the stem/vine? How many days it take to kill the vine borer?

Yes. Injected. Dunno on the timing. Problem Just went away. I also put diatomaceous earth on at same timed. Dusted

be sure to cover the stims with 2-3 inches of soil and compost. Squash have a chance of rooting if burred.

I’ve cut along the stem with a razor blade to remove vine borers. Followed up with peroxide into the cut to kill ones I didn’t see. It worked.

The whole squash vines have been burried every 2~3 'to encourage rooting.

I’d like to give an update on BT injected into the frass hole of the borer. Seems to be working but I keep finding more frass holes in other parts of the vine. The BT may not be necessary since I try to make a hole near the frass and blow out the frass from the back side which probably impales the little demons. This is just my experience.

Love your set up. Each squash has its own “throne”. Creative and impressive.
