Hi growers!
Looking at this IKKJ from Starkbros Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro Asian Persimmon Tree - Stark Bro’s
Also at this Maekawa Jiro Maekawa Jiro Asian Persimmon Tree - Stark Bro’s
Do any of you know if they grow them in DL or DV? The only response I got from support is that they are on a “persimmon seedling”. It sounds like the staff doesn’t really know what they are talking about.
Did any of you buy one of these and then got to see the leaves on a sucker from the rootstock? I think that’s the only way to differenciate them…

I don’t know starkbros; I just ordered from restoring eden and they use DL. https://restoringeden.co/product/persimmon-tree-early-jiro/

For us in warmer climates (I’m 8b, very rarely below 10F), does having DV as opposed to DL offer a significant advantage?
What is DL and DV?
The use of acronyms within growingfruit.org are challenging at best. I searched for a lexicon but there is none that I could find.
FYI… its generally acceptable to define your acronym when you first mention it.
Thanks

See my response in the other thread. DV, I believe.

I got IKKJiro from Starks a couple years back.
It was grafted to DV. I remember reading that on their website.
Below is what it looked like. You can see part of the rootstock below the graft

My apologies, I know this is hard sometimes!
DV - Diospyros Virginiana, also known as American Persimmon. A DV rootstock is a grown from seed seedling of American Persimmon.
DL - Diospyros Lotus - This is a different plant that also grows in some parts of the US. As far as I know its also decent rootstock.

Thank you both!!! I don’t know how to differenciate just based on the look of the trunk of both, maybe someone can. I’m glad they are on DV!
They have IKKJ on sale at $58. I might pick one up then.

This is a wild DV… I grew from Rich Tooie seed (a 60c southern DV).
Looks like a good match with the Starks rootstock to me.
