Almost no color on these honeycrisps. No scent either.
They look green and probably are. Also look to have been heavily shaded. Maybe too much water and too much nitrogen.
Agreed. This store always has excellent produce - guess this is just what was available at this time.
Looks like original Honeycrisp…not a more recent redder mutation.
I didn’t know it started out less red. Could be. I’ve only seen it red
Are the produce labels correct: Honey Crisp Apple 3283
It said HC, i don’t recall number.
3283 is the UPC code that the checker types into the till to bring up the correct amount; it’s also often printed on the little sticker that they put on bulk fruit. But it’s not an identifier of the particular type of honeycrisp - it’s for any and all HC that are checked out.
According to plufinder.com,
3283 = Honeycrisp, large
3468 = Honeycrisp, small (I just noticed this label on my apple today)
Produce is often typed as to size or multiples (single, bunch, bundle, etc) and those have differing PLUs.
True! IRRC regular Fujis are 4130 and the smaller ones are 4129. Or maybe that’s Galas, I can’t remember. There are a few things with more than one code -Red Delicious, for example. Evidently two systems were merged.
What I found curious is that large apples <= 88 (count per carton?)
and small >= 100 count per carton.
What happens with the 89 to 99 counts?
When I worked with potato-sizing equipment, the (count) sizes per 30-pound carton were 100-90-80-70-60-50-“Baker” (anything larger than 50-count)
Ha!
You probably got the ones grown and meant for sale in Washington state!
That’s what we’ve come to expect.
