Strawberries in rain gutters

I’m seeking advice from strawberry rain gutter growers. I have 5 varieties, each in their own gutter attached to my deck. My question is, what is the best way to overwinter these in the gutters? I have read to make a trench in my garden and put the gutter directly in the trench cover lightly with soil then cover with straw. I have also read that some people pull the gutters down and store them in a shed or barn and water throughout the winter to keep from drying out. I currently don’t have any holes drilled in the gutters to allow the water to drain because I didn’t seal the end caps in place and the water seeps out the covers. I’m assuming I should drill holes if I plan to bury in a trench? I’m in North Central Ohio zone 6A. Thank you.
