A few more apple varieties with either strawberry in the name or a distinct strawberry flavor grown at our Hocking Hills Orchard.
Late Strawberry – New York, 1848. Considered one of the best dessert apples available. Fruit is medium or larger and often strongly ribbed. The skin is pale yellow nearly covered with pinkish-red and purplish-carmine striping. The yellowish-white flesh is fine-grained, crisp, tender, and juicy. Ripens September to October.
Strawberry Norman – England. Produces a sweet cider. Small to medium fruit with skin that is lemon yellow covered with light crimson and ripens mid-season. Flesh, yellowish, close-grained with sweet juice.
Strawberry Parfait – New Jersey. Early, large handsome, striped red over ivory skin and red spashes like strawberries in vanilla ice cream in the flesh. Hints of strawberry in the aroma and taste. Strawberry Parfait was originally known as NJ46, and was developed by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station in the 1970s. It is a cross of Mollies Delicious and July Red.
Strawberry Pippin - Strawberry Pippin is a lovely red-striped apple with a pleasant crunch and a very pleasing sweet-tart flavor. The origin of this attractive apple is uncertain but is thought to have come from England at an unknown date. The medium-sized apple is striped with light and dark red with a light red blush on the sunny side. The crisp white flesh is juicy and quite sweet. Ripens in September and is a fair keeper.
Washington Strawberry – Medium size fruit. Light red skin with red stripes. Crisp, juicy, medium pink flesh.
