Strawberry (Virginia Native) not fruiting

I planted a 3 of these in 2022 in the wood chips around my shrubberies in the hopes that they would spread into a nice groundcover to outcompete the weeds and give me fruit in the bargain. They have spread into a nice groundcover as hoped. But they have not done any fruiting. I get lots and lots of flowers, but no fruit, or even really attempts at fruit.

Anybody know what could be wrong? I’m adding random strawberry species from the local stores this year in case it’s a cross-pollination thing, but my readings say they don’t need that.

Mine appeared to be doing the same this year but while they aren’t very heavy producers, I have found some but I typically have to look more carefully than my other berries (physically brushing my hand through the foliage while looking for the berries -they droop down when ripe and are only the size of a small Blueberry for mine so finding them is pretty hit and miss).

Not sure if that’s the case for you or not though. Mine didn’t bloom at all their first season and they do seem to be producing a small number of berries compared to the number of blooms.

It may that you have a male clone OR a female clone only. You’ll need to id which you have (when in bloom) and then either add the opposite gender or a hermaphrodite clone.

i have some improved wild ones from the Strawberry Store growing in my yard. i could send you some clumps come Nov. when they go dormant. did you give them high N fertilizer? if you did they will give alot of runners and leaves with little or no fruit. also if they arent in full sun most of the day they wont fruit either.
